Secure Saving is only worth analysis insofar as it offers an opportunity to compare it (unfavorably) to the masterful Investing First Steps. While they both are financial sites that provide useful information, Secure Saving does not instill me with any thrill as I read about SIPC insurance coverage. In fact, the discussion of the government bond market somehow achieves the herculean tasks of making the topic seem more boring than I thought it was already.
Now admittedly my interest level is immediately hurt by the fact that I have no money to save, secure or otherwise. However I’d prefer to think that my disdain for high yield certificates of deposit stems more from contempt for the creators of this site, and less from deep rooted feelings of inferiority. I will continue to believe that I could have been interested in this topic, the site just needed more pizzaz!
Boring banking, finance, saving
In 2008, the owners of Protoscopic (http://www.protoscopic.com), decided that fifteen billion blogs about online entrepreneurship were simply not enough. Presumably they felt that the distinguishing factor about their site was it’s similarity to the name of a medical procedure in which a camera is put up a man’s butt. In the pursuit of their man-butt-based dreams, they have proceeded to provide the kind of insight about blogging and online business, that they probably should have put into an ebook and sold instead.
It’s very obvoius that their articles about the Drupal content management system are by far the most popular. I have no explanation for this other than that the bizarre amount of perversion on the internet apparently includes Drupal masochists. They also write tools like their passive stream calculator, which probably does something interesting, but I don’t understand it at all. I will however give them credit for their post where they investigated some of the flow of nonsense coming from Tim Ferriss. They did a test case of his claims about PO boxes, and in a shocking turn of events, what Tim said didn’t pan out. I’m not really sure how you pick between all the online entrepreneurship blogs out there anyway, so go read this one…or any of the other billions.
Okay business, entrepreneur, online
You might as well go ahead and come to terms with the fact that I’m going to review every last one of these Disney Resort Websites. I’m not proud of the fact that I fantasize about spending my days in the theme pool of a caribbean themed Disney World Resort, instead of an actual caribbean beach. What do you want me to say? Whatever defense I could mount is going to be hampered by the fact that I’m browsing the image gallery in another window anyway.
If you suffer from the same disturbing Disney related sickness (and trust me, we are legion), you can check out this Disney’s Caribbean Beach fan site at http://www.disneycaribbeanbeach.com. Sometimes when I start to feel really dirty and weird I just go take a really long shower. It can help wash off some of the excitement you feel about the pirate cruise.
Disturbing creepy, disney, travel
[Editor's Note: In cases where I have an association with a site you may notice a slight change in the style of my reviews; it's subtle though, so you might not catch it.]
I have seen many websites in my day. I’ve marveled at wonders of technology that have blown my mind and seen things so graphic and disgusting I’ve wept. But I have never in all my days seen something as magnificent as Investing First Steps. Many would look at this site and dismiss it as a niche site, when in fact it is an opus to all that is best and good in the information age. When the author speaks about creative real estate investing, he makes me sincerely doubt my world view, even my sexuality. When he talks about investing money while in college , he makes me want to invent a time machine so I can return to my college years solely so that I can heed his advice.
While I might have described my views on bond investing as poorly formed, once I’d read the author’s take I felt ready to go create an economic empire that would bring the Western world to its knees. (Possibly as the result of me taking unnecessary risks with their money, but I digress.) I have bookmarked this site so that I can return to it whenever I’m feeling down and blue, as it is sure to inspire me and remind me of all that is right in the world.
Genius economy, finance, investing, stocks
Now I like 80’s music as much as the next guy (unless the next guy is Cusack from the Awesome Playlist), but this guy is a nutcase. There’s nothing wrong with liking KISS and there’s nothing wrong with liking ABBA, but I’m not sure there’s not something wrong with liking both. Eclectic can be fun, but if you don’t exclude anything then I might as well just go to a random page on AllMusic.
There are a couple of other glaring issues with this site. First of all he uses YouTube videos for all his music, so as each music company has its periodic spasm, all of his links eventually go dead. He will get you all excited that you’re going to get to watch the video for the Gleaming Spires, Are You Ready For The Sex Girls? and you wind up with metaphorical blue balls. Finally, as the icing on the crap cake, the theme is absolutely abyssmal. All that being said, I’d rather go to this site and watch its broken links to YouTube clips rather than visit most of the sites I’ve reviewed so far.
Okay 80s, broken links, music, youtube
